Prepare yourself for a more historic Spartacus
Or don’t. It’s happening either way. (Variety)

Redford and LaBeouf sign up for Lem Dobbs’ political action thriller The Company You Keep
Dobbs most notably wrote Steven Soderbergh’s The Limey. I’m glad to see Shia LaBeouf branching out from Transformers.  (Deadline)

(above) Trailer: French thriller Point Blank
As I was watching this nifty little thriller and digging it, I was thinking it would only be a matter of months before it became a US remake with Liam Neeson or Russell Crowe or someone like that. The funny thing is, it turns out Fred Cavaye’s previous film, Anything For Her got just that treatment by Paul Haggis and Russell Crowe with The Next Three Days. Do yourself a favor and check this one out before it gets Americanized. Most of the ideas behind it are familiar to the genre – an innocent man is forced to work for a group of criminals when his pregnant wife is kidnapped – but the execution and performances set this one above the rest. It opens July 29 and I’ll hopefully have a review for you before then. (Apple)

Crispin Glover added to Freaky Deaky
Replacing William H. Macy, he’s the latest piece following the shakeup that turned this adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s novel from being something to see to something to wait for on DVD. (Variety)

Crashing Through to hit the big screen
Robert Kurson’s book Crashing Through: A True Story of Risk, Adventure and the Man Who Dared to See tells the story of Mike May, a man whose sight was restored by surgery 43 years after being blinded at age 3. Adam Mazer (HBO’s You Don’t Know Jack) is writing the screenplay. (THR)

Motion Poster: The Hunger Games
Because you’ve got this burning, burning, yearning feeling inside you, ooh deep inside you and it hurts so bad. (Yahoo)

Don Murphy mounting a live-action Captain Planet
The producer struck gold with a little ’80s Hasbro ad called Transformers, but seriously? Isn’t Captain Planet and the Planeteers (created by Ted Turner in an effort to suck up to Jane Fonda) the show all the people who loved Transformers mocked? (THR)

UK Poster: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Uni dusts off Colussus remake with a new writer
Because remake ideas never really die, Universal has hired Blake Masters to rewrite their remake of Colossus: The Forbin Project. Who the hell is Blake Masters? He’s the writer/creator of the short lived TV series Brotherhood.  What the hell is Brotherhood? I don’t know. (Variety)
