(above) Trailer: Steven Soderbergh’s Hayire, plus rumors of retirement exaggerated
Apple’s got the trailer, and the blurb: “This dynamic action-thriller directed by Oscar(R) winner Steven Soderbergh boasts a talented cast that includes Channing Tatum , Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxto, Michael Douglas), Michael Angarano; and introduces mixed martial arts superstar Gina Carano as Mallory Kane, in a demanding lead role that has her performing her own high-adrenaline stunts. Mallory Kane is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency. Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who know her every move, Mallory must find the truth in order to stay alive. Using her black-ops military training, she devises an ingenious–and dangerous–trap. But when things go haywire, Mallory realizes she’ll be killed in the blink of an eye unless she finds a way to turn the tables on her ruthless adversary. ” Also, as I’ve kind of been saying all along, it turns out people are making way to big of a deal out of the Soderbergh “retirement” news. Or so says the man himself.

  1. The Haywire trailer makes it seem like yawn-inducing predictable genre fare. But the presence of Soderbergh and a striking supporting cast suggests the trailer sells it way short.

  2. Can you imagine Jack Black, Nic Cage and Steve Carrell in a Charlie Kaufman pic?

They’re all nuts enough to make it interesting.

  3. Sartre, I’m going by Soderbergh and the cast, I didn’t even watch the trailer.
