Today’s news, nuggets and notables:

Claude Laydu, Actor: 1927 – 2011
He died July 29, but his performance as the troubled, sickly priest in Robert Bresson’s arthouse favorite The Diary of a Country Priest ensures his cinematic immortality. (Guardian)

UK Trailer: Ralph Fiennes directs and stars in Shakespeare’s Coriolanus
The ad-free version at The Playlist was apparently yanked, so you’ll have to settle for this one at THR. You know how I feel about ads before ads for movies, but what are you gonna do?

Dermot Mulroney joins Nicole Kidman in Stoker
Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode and Jackie Weaver co-star in the thriller written by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller. (THR)

Morgan Freeman in discussions for Now You See Me
Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo and Amanda Seyfried are already on board Louis Leterrier’s magician caper flick. (Variety)

Two Guns: Mark Wahlberg in; David O. Russell, Vince Vaughn out

Trailer #2: Sundance hit Like Crazy
Just a week or so after the teaser… (Apple)

Bruce Willis in talks for G.I. Joe: Retaliation
The first one made $300 million worldwide which isn’t spectacular for a $175 million film, but there was no way they weren’t going to make a sequel. Sucks to see Willis stooping so low for a paycheck gig, but whatever. (THR)

Keanu Reeves searching behind couch cushions for directorial debut Man of Tai Chi

Rose Byrne in, Greta Gerwig out of The Place Beyond The Pines
Gerwig had been in talks back in June, but apparently they were not fruitful. Rose Byrne didn’t really pop up on my radar strongly until this year when she made strong impressions in the not-very-good-but-better-than-you’ve-heard Insidious and the comedy hit Bridesmaids. Pines you may recall reteams writer/director Derek Cianfrance with his Blue Valentine co-star Ryan Gosling. (Vulture)
