Atom Egoyan to direct West Memphis Three film
The entertainment media has been abuzz the last couple of days with the release of the West Memphis Three after 18 years in prison and it was inevitable a feature would be launched sooner or later. Well, it’s sooner. The script is based on Mara Leveritt’s 2003 book Devil’s Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three which documents the story of the three men who were convicted of the brutal murder of three 8-year-old boys in West Memphis, Arkansas in 1993 only to have serious flaws in the case later uncovered. The story became a celebrity magnet after the Paradise Lost documentaries by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky (a third is debuting at Toronto) (Deadline)

Director Lynn Shelton attached to indie comedy Laggies
Andrea Seigel’s script revolves around a 28-year-old who hasn’t never quite embraced adulthood. When her boyfriend proposes marriage, she fakes a retreat wherein she spends a week hanging out with a bunch of high schoolers. The cinematic landscape has been lousy with growth-stunted men, so the time is right to give the women a turn. This sounds perfect for Anna Faris. Lynn Shelton previously directed Humpday. 1. A West Memphis 3 film announcement already? Dang that was fast. I knew it’d be coming but man…

  2. I have to figure there was already one in the works and they just used this latest news as an opportunity to announce it. Not sure if Egoyan has been on board for long, but considering the script is based on a 2003 book (and I think it’s already been written), I assume this one was already well on its way.
