Trailer: Julia Roberts, Willem Dafoe, Ryan Reynolds in Fireflies in the Garden

The weekend’s news, nuggets and notables updated as needed:

Martin Scorsese and William Monahan developing remake of The Gambler
And naturally they want Leonardo DiCaprio to star. I’m fine with the James Caan original, but whatever Scorsese wants to do, sign me up. (THR)

Wow. If the tone of the movie lurches around as awkwardly as this trailer, it’s no wonder it’s been on the shelf since 2008. (Yahoo)

Flatliners gets a writer
Rather than a remake of the 1990 Joel Schumacher film, this version of Flatliners is named for the folks in Hollywood who are supposed to have imaginations. Ok, not really. It is indeed a remake of the Schumacher pic. Ben Ripley previously wrote Source Code. (Deadline)

  1. Scorsese knows there’s other working actors right? And even a few who’re more sponatenous and less overbearingly eager to be the most intense performer of all time.

  2. LOL. Perfect blurb for Flatliners.

  3. at least Scorsese has been talking about adapting “The Gambler” since the beginning of his career. and that article at THR mentions “Silence” is in prep. I’d love to be excited about a new Scorsese movie again.

  4. Boy, James Toback (Original Gambler screenwriter) sure isn’t happy about it though!
