Apple has the trailer (streaming after the jump) for Cameron Crowe’s We Bought a Zoo starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, Patrick Fugit and Elle Fanning.

Here’s the Apple blurbage:

“This holiday season, acclaimed filmmaker Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous) directs an amazing and true story about a single dad who decides his family needs a fresh start, so he and his two children move to the most unlikely of places: a zoo. With the help of an eclectic staff, and with many misadventures along the way, the family works to return the dilapidated zoo to its former wonder and glory.”

Based on Benjamin Mee’s book We Bought a Zoo: The Amazing True Story of a Young Family, a Broken Down Zoo, and the 200 Wild Animals That Change Their Lives Forever, Cameron Crowe’s film opens December 23.

  1. Well, we can never be sure of what the tidings will be like (we know what’s it like to get coal) but the innocuous trailer and story, respected filmmaker, and terrific cast seem to suggest a winner. Seems like this is the year of the zoo in kiddie land, as ths past year’s winner of the Caldecott Medal was “A Sick Day For Amos McGee” by Claire Vanderpool, that chronicles the close friendship of a zookeeper and the animals that visit him at his home when he is homebound.

  2. Don’t forget Kevin James in The Zookeeper!

Ok, wait. Yeah. That’s best forgotten.

  3. I don’t know, I just don’t see this being strong enough, or serious enough to pass Globes. But, that’s just me.
