Directed by Lynne Ramsay (Ratcatcher, Morvern Callar), We Need to Talk About Kevin was one of the more well-received pictures at Cannes last spring. This striking poster debuted yesterday at HitFix, but this supersized version was sent out today and so I thought I’d pass it along.

The official blurb is much more vague than most of the reviews so it might be well to just read that without digging too deep:

“A suspenseful and gripping psychological thriller, Lynne Ramsay’s WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN explores the factious relationship between a mother and her son.  Tilda Swinton, in a bracing, tour-de-force performance, plays the mother, Eva, as she contends for 15 years with the increasing malevolence of her first-born child, Kevin (Ezra Miller).

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN explores nature vs. nurture on a whole new level as Eva’s own culpability is measured against Kevin’s innate evilness. Ramsay’s masterful storytelling simultaneously combines a provocative moral ambiguity with a satisfying and compelling narrative, which builds to a chilling, unforgettable climax.”

We Need to Talk About Kevin will make an Oscar-qualifying run in LA and NY on December 9 and will be unleashed upon the world on January 27.

  1. I received an e mail from my site colleague Allan Fish, who is raving about this film. He managed to see it last week. Of course I well remember the director from RATCATCHER.

  2. I’ll be getting a look at it in a little over a week. It’s one of the more interesting ones to have come out of Cannes this year and I’ve been looking forward to it.

  3. Tilda doesn’t mess around. This should be quite an experience.
