Jared Harris is the son of the late, great Richard Harris in case you didn’t know it, a man who played a hero of the South in Sam Peckinpah’s Major Dundee. In addition to his excellent turn on AMC’s Mad Men as Lane Pryce, Jared has also had juicy parts in The Notorious Bettie Page and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (as Captain Mike). He’ll make his biggest splash of all as Moriarty in the upcoming Sherlock Holmes sequel A Game of Shadows starring Robert Downey Jr.

As for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, it’s been a while since I’ve checked in on it though you’ll recall Daniel Day-Lewis is playing Abe himself and Sally Field is Mary Todd.  Notable co-stars include Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spacer, Lee Pace, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Stuhlbarg, John Hawkes, David Strathairn, Hal Holbrook and Tim Blake Nelson.

The screenplay was written by Tony Kushner (Munich) from an original screenplay by John Logan and Paul Webb based on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Lincoln biography A Team of Rivals which tells the story of Lincoln’s Civil War years and his often fractious relationship with his own cabinet.

The film is planned for December 2012.

  1. Neat. I didn’t realize he was Richard Harris’ son! Or maybe I did but forgot. Anyway he seems like an excellent choice.

I think I just OD’d looking at that cast list. Holy smokes. This had better be good.

  2. I don’t think I ever made the connection to Richard Harris before reading this Variety piece, but it totally looks like his son.
