Raging Bull (1980) directed by Martin Scorsese
Robert De Niro as Jake La Motta and Joe Pesci as Joey La Motta

Jake: I got these small hands. I got a little girl’s hands.
Joey: I got ’em too. What’s the difference?
Jake: Know what that means? No matter how big I get, no matter who I fight, no matter what I do, I ain’t never gonna fight Joe Louis.
Joey: Yeah, that’s right. He’s a heavyweight, you’re a middleweight. We know that.
Jake: I ain’t never gonna get a chance to fight the best there is and you know something? I’m better than them.

  1. It is doubtful that any other Scorsese film has more memorable dialogue than this masterpiece, which is arguably the director’s greatest film (at least as great as TAXI DRIVER) and teh one mentioned often as the greatest “sports film” of all-time. In addition, it is the one most often mentioned as the greatest film of the 1980’s.

  2. Yes it was hard picking a suitable quote. This one seemed to fit best.

  3. I thought it a masterpiece after seeing it during the initial theatrical run and across all my subsequent viewings. For me one of the greatest films ever made. I still remember leaving the theater the first time and overhearing a moron complain that it was in black and white.

  4. I hope you euthanized that fellow before he procreated.
