Michael Fassbender to star in Irish Myths based on the Ulster Cycle
The oldest written manuscripts of the Ulster Cycle date back to between the 12th and 15th centuries but the stories themselves are believed to be rooted in an older oral tradition going back much further and the stories themselves are set around the time of Christ. Fassbender will play Cú Chulainn, the nephew of the mythological king whose most famous adventure, recounted in the epic Táin Bó Cúailnge (The Cattle Raid of Cooley), saw the young hero defending his people’s prize bull from an entire army raised by their archenemy, Queen Medb of the Connachta.
