Soylent Green (1973) Directed by Richard Fleischer
Edward G. Robinson as Sol Roth and Charlton Heston as Detective Thorn (not pictured)

Sol: There was a world once, you punk.
Thorn: Yeah, so you keep telling me.
Sol: I was there. I can prove it.
Thorn: I know, I know. When you were young, people were better.
Sol: Aww, nuts. People were always rotten… but the world was beautiful.

  1. :-)

    Perfect quote for Earth Day.

Edward G. Robinson is one of my all-time favorites.

  2. I love that he calls Chuck Heston a punk.

    Robinson rules.

  3. Compared to him Charlton Heston was a punk. :-)

  4. Exactly!

  5. This film received very mixed reviews upon release, but I must say I remember it fondly and reviewed it upon release for my college newspaper in those long ago days. I own a copy of the DVD as well, and well realize it was the swan song for the great Edward G.

  6. I was too young to see it when it originally came out, but I think I’ve told the story before how I had nightmares just based on the blow by blow descriptions of it from my older brothers (this along with Night of the Living Dead). I’m not sure if it was the original release or a subsequent reissue, though Living Dead was for a sure a reissue.

Anyway, for the longest time garbage trucks scared me!
