For many Roy Ward Baker is best remembered as the director of A NIGHT TO REMEMBER (the best Titanic film) but he did some memorable work for the Hammer series, of which this better-than-the-reviews-world-have-you-think horror is a vintage example. Lesbian vampires are the subject of this erotic film, and it alwats great to see Peter Cushing and Ingrid Pitt.
Ingrid PItt is way hotter as a brunette and that’s all I have to say on THAT subject.
I think of all the Hammer vampire flicks I’ve quoted so far this week, this one is my favorite and I have to admit the titillation factor has a lot to do with it. I tried to pick a quote that captured that coy sexual tension which was always handled with a certain twinkle in the eye, but I didn’t find a satisfactory one. Despite the nudity and the sexual suggestion, there’s an innocence to this one that makes it more charming than more explicit example of the Lesbian vampire genre.
