One Response to “Scarface (1932)”

  1. One of the landmarks of American cinema, one that still stands tall compared with DePalma’s over-the-top if entertaining re-make. Muni and even Dvorak give legendary performances, and I even got a kick out of Karloff’s miscast turn as mob leader Gafney, who was gunned down in a bowling alley. Unforgettable set pieces, and further example of why Hawks was one of the most versatile artists.Holds up on repeated viewings, and is a staple in all kinds of retrospectives.
