Tarantino Rumor Mill in High Gear

According to AICN’s Harry Knowles, Quentin Tarantino recently sat down to shoot the shit with Enzo Castellari for the upcoming 3-DVD Special Edition of the Italian director’s 1977 WWII exploitation film, Quel Maledetto Treno Blindato. A Tarantino favorite, the film stars Bo Svenson and Fred Williamson as part of a group of US soldiers facing [...]

Paul Newman Health Rumors Cloud the Internet

I read last night that Paul Newman is gravely ill and that it may be terminal lung cancer.
I debated all day long whether to say anything about it for fear of legitimizing in even the tiniest way the civic embarrassment known as The Dish Rag, the gossip column updated regularly by Elizabeth Snead on the [...]

Rumor of the Week: Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Power Play’

SlashFilm points us to a June 7 entry at Cigarettes and Red Vines (”The definitive P.T. Anderson resource”) consisting of an unsourced rumor that Paul Thomas Anderson’s next project will be Power Play , based on Peter Bart’s novella about a power struggle between Las Vegas casino owners and Native American tribes.
Bart got in trouble from his employers at Variety [...]

Tarantino Hype Continues

According the the Alamo Drafthouse’s Rolling Roadshow Tour website, Quentin Tarantino will not present Sergio Leone’s Dollars trilogy in Spain as originally planned because he has “cleared all appearances to begin preproduction on his new feature, Inglorious Bastards.”
Make of it what you will, or ignore it. I’ve started paying attention now so I can’t stop.

Forget about Brett Ratner, the disturbing angle on news that the long-rumored Beverly Hills Cop sequel may finally be making some headway is that for every note of justified skepticism, there’s someone who actually thinks it’s a good idea.
Why do the studios keep churning out sequels and remakes? Because there are always enough dumbasses who can’t let [...]

LiC Rides the Quentin-Go-Round

Who’s the last person you should believe for information about upcoming Quentin Tarantino projects? That’s right, Tarantino himself.
Yet, the man speaks and everyone (including LiC) jumps.
JoBlo links us to a Cannes interview where, at 10 minutes in, Tarantino is asked about future Kill Bill movies and the notoriously indecisive filmmaker replies that he’s actually just finished the first draft of [...]

Bond: To Beyonce or Not to Beyonce?

I’ve already opened this can of worms, so I’ve got to keep eating them until they’re all gone.
According to Gold Derby’s Tom O’Neil, The London Daily Express (aka fish wrap) is tossing around the latest name to record a theme for the upcoming James Bond film Quantum of Solace. That’s right, it’s the Dreamgirl herself: Beyonce.
But, not so [...]

Non-story of the moment: From Iron Man to Iron Hef?

Qualifying the story as “not a 100 percent done deal,” Bill Zwecker is reporting in the Chicago Sun-Times that Robert Downey Jr. could play Hugh Hefner in the upcoming film Playboy.
Cinematical’s Erik Davis picked up the story and that’s where I read about it.
Let’s look at what “not a 100 percent done deal” means. In this case [...]

Sinatra x Scorsese

Donna Reed, Frank Sinatra and Montgomery Clift in From Here to Eternity
According to Sun Media, Tina Sinatra would have the world believe they’re going to make a biography of her father Frank Sinatra and that fellow Italian-American Martin Scorsese might direct it. Yeah, I’ll believe it when I see the one-sheet and it says “A Martin Scorsese [...]

Spielberg Rumor Mill Keeps Grinding

According to the L.A. Times’ Sheigh Crabtree, Steven Spielberg told German magazine Focus that Chicago Seven is on the back burner and that he hopes to begin filming the oft rumored Abraham Lincoln biography in 2009 to coincide with the 16th president’s 200th anniversary.
OK, I’ve already lost interest in this story, but I’ve gone and typed [...]

‘Blindness’ to Open Cannes?

There was some head scratching when the Cannes lineup was announced recently and Fernando Meirelles’ drama Blindness was nowhere to be found. Nevertheless, Hollywood Reporter’s Steven Zeitchik speculated it would ultimately be chosen to fill the vacant opening or closing spots.
Variety reports this morning that the drama about an epidemic of blindness starring Julianne Moore [...]

Quantum of Winehouse

According to The Envelope’s Todd Martens, Amy Winehouse is working on a theme song for the upcoming James Bond film, Quantum of Solace with producer Mark Ronson. Ronson told the BBC “The demo sounds like a James Bond theme, hopefully. But I don’t know if it’ll get used.”
Artists have been asked to record songs for [...]

…Or maybe Clint Eastwood is just Dirty Harry again

Internet hopes that Clint Eastwood’s upcoming Gran Torino would turn out to be a new Dirty Harry movie were stoked this evening with the unsubstantiated claims of some character named Kurt from North Hollywood.
Kurt wrote in to tell AICN’s Harry Knowles that he’d recently been approached by a representative from Village Roadshow Pictures looking to check out the [...]
