Last week, MTV (AKA The Twilight Channel) reported with a straight face that Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman were really going to be Riddler and Penguin in the next Batman movie. Their source? Michael Caine. Had Alfred been promoted from butler to casting director? Of course not. The rumor was as bogus last week [...]

Here’s a collection of production items that have come across my desk in the last few days, none of which were interesting enough to inspire their own piece.
Ghostbusters 3. People are strangely excited about a possible new Ghostbusters sequel. I love the first one, barely remember the second and never thought to myself “gee, I wish they’d make [...]

UK tabloid based rumors swirled over the weekend that Russell Crowe would play Watson opposite Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes in the upcoming Guy Ritchie film based on the Arthur Conan Doyle characters. That’s all well and good, but it’s another tabloid lie. Ritchie himself tells Empire “I don’t have a Watson.”
Meanwhile, Cinematical puts to rest [...]

It didn’t seem worth mentioning that Mike Myers nabbed what amounts to a cameo in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards the other day nor that David Krumholtz (Numb3rs) was out and Samm Levine (Freaks and Geeks) was in. However, combine all that with word that Simon Pegg is also out because of scheduling conflicts and you have something [...]

Faced with the juicy rumor that Paul Greengrass (United 93, The Bourne Identity) was taking over Trial of the Chicago 7 from Steven Spielberg, CHUD’s Devin Faraci did the sensible thing and sent the man an email.
Greengrass is busy in post-production with his Iraq film Green Zone starring Matt Damon, but he replied to say that, while [...]

It’s official: Brad Pitt is a Bastard. According to Variety, the actor has signed on the dotted line to star in Quentin Tarantino’s next film Inglorious Bastards as a Tennessee hillbilly who leads a team of eight Jewish soldiers in fighting the Nazis during WWII.
You may remember I resisted this news all along while the [...]

The first source I could find for the supposed Quentin Tarantino remake of Russ Meyer’s Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! was Variety fossil Liz Smith asking back in January if it would “shock any of you to learn that Quentin Tarentino (sic) is hot to remake the 1966 Russ Meyer campy soft-porn classic.” She doesn’t give [...]

The Playlist reported over the weekend a blurb in the print edition of Entertainment: Weakly that rumors of Leonardo DiCaprio starring in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards were false. Now Variety’s Michael Fleming and Tatiana Siegel are saying Hostel director Eli Roth is in talks for the part of a “baseball bat-swinging Nazi hunter.”
Say what you [...]

There are about 547 ways this thing could go horribly and embarrassingly wrong, but news that Nic Cage and John Carpenter might make a prison break film together warms my heart.
I can’t remember the last time Carpenter made a film I really liked and Cage has always been spotty, but there’s something about this that [...]

More than a week has gone by without any Inglorious Bastards news, but Variety saves the day by reporting that Universal Pictures is close to partnering with the Weinstein Company on bringing the World War II flick to a screen near you.
Near the end of the short article, Michael Flemming and Tatiana Siegel realize this [...]

Per a heads up from Joel: Where the Wild Things Are producer Gary Goetzman was pigeonholed and gangbanged by a flock of Comic-Con reporters on the City of Ember train headed for San Diego yesterday.
According to CHUD’s Devin Faraci, Spike Jonze has final cut on Wild Things and that production house Playtone supports him. Faraci quotes Goetzman [...]

Everyone’s favorite industry rag hops aboard the Inglorious Bastards (or Inglourious Basterds if you prefer) bandwagon and throws out a few nuggets of its own.
Michael Fleming sees Brad Pitt as a “strong logistical fit for the project” if he agrees to the role of Aldo Raine. The actor is in France wrangling Pitt/Jolie spawn with [...]

According to AICN’s Harry Knowles, Quentin Tarantino recently sat down to shoot the shit with Enzo Castellari for the upcoming 3-DVD Special Edition of the Italian director’s 1977 WWII exploitation film, Quel Maledetto Treno Blindato. A Tarantino favorite, the film stars Bo Svenson and Fred Williamson as part of a group of US soldiers facing [...]

I read last night that Paul Newman is gravely ill and that it may be terminal lung cancer.
I debated all day long whether to say anything about it for fear of legitimizing in even the tiniest way the civic embarrassment known as The Dish Rag, the gossip column updated regularly by Elizabeth Snead on the [...]

SlashFilm points us to a June 7 entry at Cigarettes and Red Vines (”The definitive P.T. Anderson resource”) consisting of an unsourced rumor that Paul Thomas Anderson’s next project will be Power Play , based on Peter Bart’s novella about a power struggle between Las Vegas casino owners and Native American tribes.
Bart got in trouble from his employers at Variety [...]
