The Watercooler: 9/22/08

I crammed all my movies into Sunday evening and it’s late and I’m tired so I’m going to keep my half of this short. Let’s just say It wasn’t exactly a movie going weekend for the record books, but it could’ve been a lot worse.
First up was Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinnear and Téa Leoni in [...]

The Watercooler: 9/15/08

The fall season officially got underway this weekend as Joel and Ethan Coen scored bragging rights with the #1 film at the box office. Burn After Reading’s estimated $19.4 million haul is the biggest opening ever for the Oscar winning brothers.
A late summer cold and the lack of anything else compelling in theaters conspired to [...]

Review: Burn After Reading (2008) ****

John Malkovich dictates his ‘memwahs’ in Burn After Reading
They are two brothers who have a knack for combining genres and styles into hybrids that can only be described by using their last name as an adjective. Their films are set in a recognizable approximation of reality, but certain elements have been tweaked and exaggerated. Unexpected [...]

Weekend Forecast: 9/11/08

Ethan Coen, Joel Coen and Mr. Angelina Jolie on the set of Burn After Reading
Open wide and say “Burn!”

Burn After Reading. Anyone who has read LiC for any length of time knows I’m completely in the tank for the Coen Brothers. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that I loved this movie. It’s fair to [...]

Toronto Heats Up

For this batch of Toronto reviews, I’m mostly dispensing with plot synopses because I already recently summarized these movies in the fall forecast. If you enjoy your LiC regurgitated story blurbs, let me know and perhaps they’ll return with the next round.
Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Variety’s John Anderson liked it a little but called [...]

‘Burn After’ Reviewing

It seems perfectly foolish to link to a review that I’m not going to read and this probably isn’t even the first official review of Joel and Ethan Coen’s Burn After Reading, but it’s the first one that’s come across my newsfeeds and this is how I roll when it comes to the Brothers Coen.
Here’s [...]

LiC 2008 Fall Forecast: September

George Clooney and Frances McDormand in Burn After Reading
You can almost hear the air being let out of the summer movie season. Overall it was a pretty decent four months of movies, but I for one am glad to see it coming to an end. Now it’s time to look forward to the last third [...]

Coens get ‘Serious’

With Burn After Reading set to premiere next month, it looks like Academy Award winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen are getting down to business with their next project, the black comedy A Serious Man.
According to Variety’s Tatiana Siegel, the brothers have chosen Richard Kind (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and TV’s Spin City) and [...]

International ‘Burn After Reading’ Poster

JoBlo has the international one-sheet for Joel and Ethan Coen’s Burn After Reading. It’s obviously very similar to the US poster with the addition of the figures at the bottom.
I like it, but then it’s widely known I’m in the tank for all things Coen.

‘Burn After Reading’ Featurettes

According to Cinematical, these don’t offer much more than the teaser or red-band trailers for Burn After Reading, but we’re spiritually obligated to run all things Coen.
As always, I’m not watching, but don’t let that stop you.
