Viewed as an effort to get more boys interested in their brand, Disney today announced plans for a new series of darker cartoons produced by Guillermo Del Toro.

After a fruitless 8 month search to find a writer for the upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit and its followup, executive producer Peter Jackson and director Guillermo del Toro have decided to write it themselves along with Lord of the Rings co-writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
