Though Jacques Audiard’s A Prophet (Un Prophete) led all films with six European Film Award nominations, Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon (Das Weisse Band) prevailed in the top prizes just as it did at Cannes earlier this year.

This UK Trailer for France’s official Best Foreign Language Oscar submission is the first one that makes me believe it might be worth of the hype it’s been getting since Cannes. Jacques Audiard’s Palme d’Or runner-up A Prophet took the inaugural Star of London award at the just concluded BFI London Film Festival. John Hillcoat’s The Road received a special mention.
France’s official selection for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, A Prophet is set for a US release on February 26, 2010.

The first selections for the 23rd AFI Fest in Los Angeles were announced today with a number of films that have been getting lots of buzz at recent festivals.

Jacques Audiard’s A Prophet (Un Prophéte), one of the current favorites among the bloggering class to win the Palme d’Or, has been picked up for distribution in North America, South America and Australia by Sony Pictures Classics.
