Avatar and The Hurt Locker top the nominations with 9 each while Inglourious Basterds nets 8.
The Blind Side surprised (some) by sneaking in with a nomination and A Serious Man overcame doubts it could make it.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was also something of a surprise in the Supporting Actress category.
