AFI announced yesterday that two highly anticipated films, Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler and Steven Soderbergh’s Che will be making their West Coast premieres at the 2008 AFI Fest.

As Toronto fires up and Venice winds down, here’s a smattering of reviews of the higher profile films critics are talking about.

I listed Rian (Brick) Johnson’s The Brothers Bloom in the October Fall Forecast, but Johnson confirmed on his own message board that it’s being moved back to a limited release on December 19 with a wide release to follow in January.

According to IGN’s Todd Gilchrist, Rian Johnson (Brick) is set to follow up The Brothers Bloom with a sci-fi film called Looper.
He doesn’t say much about the story, but he says it’s violent and dark, involves time travel as a plot device and will focus on characters more than “fantastical conceits.”
